“It's difficult to put a label on the many origin stories and heritages that get mixed into the giant cauldron we call America. Words fall short, but we try to make do. When words fail we can come close enough to represent who we are in the works we make.” - Annesta Le
The identifiers spanning a hyphenated American identity often present a false dichotomy. We're not equal parts American and equal parts something else, based on where we live and where our ancestors came from. In -American, we're asking artists to explore their double consciousnesses, each containing multitudes that aren't so easily parsed.
Exhibiting artists: Annesta Le, Audrey Rodriguez, Christopher Herrera, Francisco Donoso, Fanny Allié, Guno Park, Hula, Humza Deas, ICY & SOT, Jess X. Snow, Lujan Perez, Marcelo Daldoce, Rohini Sen, Tsultrim Tenzin, Uzo Njoku.
